Welcome to the homepage of the Coalition to Raise Aesthetic Consciousness (CRAC), an organization dedicated to raising the level of aesthetic awareness and reflection of the man and woman on the street. CRAC was formed several years ago by a small enclave of ordinary citizens concerned about the ever-increasing uglification of our world. Driven by a combination of limited commercial space and plain old tasteless architecture, hideous monstrosities have sprung up all across our landscapes in the guise of 'buildings.' Similar factors have contributed to the uglification of everything from automobiles and household appliances to furniture and public monuments. Our creation of objects in the physical world has increasingly become a process governed by concerns of 'economy,' 'functionality,' and 'ergonomics.' These are the buzzwords of a zeitgeist that has abandoned aesthetic sensibility for raw utility. If left unchecked, the uglification trend will reduce our public and private spaces to sterile, efficient environments that dull our creative capacities and weaken our sense of humanity.

But we are not without recourse. CRAC is an agency of action, and by joining us you can participate in a real and daily struggle to stop uglification. CRAC is predicated on the assumption that the first step toward stopping uglification is to recognize it. To that end we have initiated an innovative and covert campaign of guerilla action to subvert the forces of ugliness by exposing them for what they are on their own territory.
