The insidious nature of ugliness is such that we gradually become accustomed to its presence. This de-sensitization can be halted only through a conscious effort to become aware of the ugliness around us, and to make others aware of it as well. To that end, CRAC's Committee on Subversive Activity has developed the operation ugly-aware toolkit. The toolkit is simple; it consists of one item, this decal:

The purpose of the decal is twofold: 1) by affixing decals to buildings and other objects which blatantly offend his or her aesthetic sensibility, the CRAC agent will increase the aesthetic awareness of other individuals who have become de-sensitized to the ugliness around them; 2) by carrying several decals in his or her pocket at all times, the CRAC agent will develop a heightened aesthetic awareness, as he or she will be constantly on the lookout for objects that need to be labeled.

Becoming a member of the CRAC army is simple. The rules for affixing decals are as follows:

1) no decal shall ever be affixed, either directly or indirectly, to a human being
2) no decal shall be affixed in a manner such as to cause permanent damage to the offending object
3) decals shall be affixed with discretion, and only to those objects which blatantly offend against the affixer's aesthetic conscience

Now you need the decals. If you want to print the decals from a stand-alone picture viewer (recommended) right-click here to download a template for a sheet of nine decals. If you want to print them directly from your browser, first go to 'Page Setup' in the 'File' menu of your browser. Turn off all of the headers and footers and set the margins to zero. Then go here and choose 'Print' from your browser's 'File' menu. You can print these decals directly to letter-size sticker-paper, or you can print them to regular stock and then photocopy them to sticker-paper. If you don't have the means to print the image, fill out the membership form, and we'll send you a hard copy in the mail. Once you've got the decals printed on sticker-paper, just cut along the lines and you get nine decals per page. Sticker-paper is available at your local copy store (the headquarters away from headquarters for all subversive activists).

Good luck!
